There are many cars that would be able to catch your attention in the grand touring category. However, when it comes to Bentley, you definitely expect something really great to come over. Bentley won the 71st 24 Hours of Le Mans challenge. It was using its Speed 8 prototypes by then. However, it is only recently that the company has accommodated a new racing car in their fleet. This new car is the Continental GT3. The car made a debut at the Gulf 12 Hours of Abu Dhabi challenge on the 13th of December 2013. As the 12 Hours of Abu Dhabi is divided into 2 sessions of 6 hours each, the developers were able to make improvements in the car before it entered in the Blancpain Endurance Series 2014.
The Blancpain Series is sponsored by Blancpain, a Swiss watchmaker and this is one of the motorsports events that has attracted some really cool supercars in the past. It is a series of 5 races that take place in the Monza circuit in Italy. However, the car needs to be a little more careful this time. This is so because some of the best racing cars of the season like the McLaren 12C GT3, the Aston Martin Vintage GT3 and even the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 would be participating in the event. Bentley would have to prove its mettle with this race, competing against the most seasoned players of the game. The Continental GT3 by Bentley was developed under the able guidance of Brian Gush who looks after motorsports engineering of the project. The car took more than one year to finish. Gush is the same man who led the Le Mans campaign of Bentley when it won the series about 10 years ago. In fact, he teamed up with M-Sports Ltd, which has been running a program for the World Rally Championship for Ford since the year 1997. It has a better version of the Continental GT’s 4-liter twin turbo V8 engine that produced 600 hp. The resemblance with the street version of the car can be witnessed but it does not drool over the design at all. As it has a six speed automatic, a rear wheel setup and an all-wheel drive feature, it is better designed in terms of the FIA rules when it comes to the GT3 class of vehicles. The voluptuous car has now slimmed down for better aerodynamics that would be seen in the Blancpain motorsports racing this April.
